L.A. City Hall evacuated due to vehicle crash; driver in custody after standoff

A vehicle collided near Los Angeles City Hall on Friday afternoon, resulting in the evacuation of the building and road closures in the vicinity. After a nearly two-hour standoff with police, the driver chose to exit the car and was subsequently taken into custody. A crisis team from the Los Angeles Police Department communicated with the driver before he was handcuffed at First and Spring streets. The individual was evaluated by paramedics while seated with cuffed hands. Streets and freeway off-ramps remain closed as authorities handle the situation, though it is uncertain if the crash was intentional. Notably, posters with messages expressing non-violent intentions and a plea for help were visible in the vehicle. Mayor Karen Bass mentioned on social media that City Hall is being evacuated as a safety measure, and she extended gratitude to the first responders present at the scene. As the situation unfolds, updates will be provided.
