Knoxville man receives 27-year sentence for fatal crash on Pellissippi Parkway
A man from Knoxville has been sentenced to over 25 years in prison for driving the wrong way on Pellissippi Parkway, causing a fatal crash that resulted in the death of two individuals and left another injured. Eduardo DeAvila, 35, was convicted of multiple charges, including vehicular homicide and reckless engagement. Knox County District Attorney General Charme Allen revealed that DeAvila will serve 27 years in the Tennessee Department of Correction and will not be eligible for parole until after 20 years. Prosecutors emphasized holding him accountable for the harm he caused to each victim. The incident occurred in November, with DeAvila driving the wrong way for more than five miles before colliding head-on with a vehicle, leading to the deaths and injuries. Analysis showed he had cocaine and a high blood alcohol content in his system at the time of the crash. Despite the defense’s argument that victims were to blame, the jury found DeAvila guilty. General Allen underscored the severe consequences of impaired driving and the importance of enforcing DUI laws diligently to prevent tragic incidents like this.
