WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Highway Patrol released its Independence Day Holiday Activity Report on Tuesday. The report covers 6 p.m. Thursday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday. The patrol reported that troopers worked a total of five fatal crashes, which were not DUI-related. That's up from two in 2025 and zero in 2024. KHP investigated 14 total crashes during the time period, according to its online crash logs. Four of the fatal crashes happened on Saturday, while one happened Friday. The number of speeding tickets issued by troopers rose to 752, which is a 13% increase from 2025. Troopers also gave 596 warnings for speeding, which is up about 18% from the previous year. But both numbers are significantly lower than in 2024.
