Kentwood man killed in vehicle accident near Big Rapids

A tragic incident occurred near Big Rapids when a man from Kentwood and a woman from Minnesota lost their lives in a crash, as reported by local authorities. The accident took place on southbound US-131 close to Perry Avenue in Big Rapids Township when their vehicle veered off the road and collided with an overpass after travelling at high speed. Despite the car catching fire, prompt action from the Big Rapids Fire Department helped extinguish the flames. Tragically, the victims, identified as 59-year-old Mark Lewis from Kentwood and his 61-year-old sister, Tamyra Northern from Minnesota, along with a dog, were found deceased at the scene. The Mecosta County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash. The incident led to the closure of the southbound lanes of US-131 at Perry Avenue due to the potential structural damage caused to the overpass during the impact, resulting in traffic being directed to the off-ramp at Perry Avenue while repairs are underway.
