Kenosha day care worker allegedly involved in child abuse incident and 'staging' injury

Prosecutors in Kenosha have brought charges against a daycare worker for child abuse, alleging that she deliberately caused harm to a young child. The defendant, 26-year-old Nour Al Thafiri from Waukegan, Illinois, appeared in court on Thursday, June 5, 2025. The incident dates back to April when a family in Kenosha noticed bruising on their two-year-old child, similar to finger marks. The daycare initially claimed the bruising happened when the child's head got stuck under a cabinet while playing. However, prosecutors presented evidence from video surveillance showing Al Thafiri forcefully handling the child, including putting a blanket over his head and rolling a ball under the cabinet to create a false explanation for the injuries. The defense attorney acknowledges the accusations but notes that the situation does not involve physical violence like punching or kicking a child. Al Thafiri's bond has been set at $10,000, and the daycare's response to the allegations is still pending.
