KDOT, Basehor City consider lowering speed limit on US 24 post fatal accident

KSHB 41 reporter Rachel Henderson covers neighborhoods in Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties and is seeking story ideas from the community. Following a tragic incident where a 16-year-old driver lost their life in a crash on U.S. Highway 24, the Kansas Department of Transportation and the City of Basehor announced a joint initiative to reduce speed limits in the area. Longtime Basehor resident Tammy Wilson Potts expressed deep sorrow for the family and the community over the loss. This initiative comes after multiple fatalities and safety concerns along State Avenue have been raised over the years. With efforts dating back 17 years to lower the speed limit, the city is finally making progress, with signatures on a petition and plans for a speed reduction pilot project. The community is hopeful that these efforts will lead to a safer environment for residents and drivers.
