June hit-and-run crash suspect in bicyclist fatality held in custody
The New Orleans Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a bicyclist. The incident occurred on June 14 at the intersection of North Interstate 10 service road and Bundy Road. The female bicyclist was riding with another person when a Dodge Caravan driven by 18-year-old Jose Javier Suazo struck her from behind, causing her to be ejected and ultimately leading to her death. Suazo allegedly fled the scene without reporting the incident. An investigation by the NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit revealed that Suazo attempted to burn the vehicle involved in an effort to destroy evidence.
