JPD provides updates on deadly Main & 34th Street collision

The investigation into a tragic accident in Joplin is still underway, authorities report. According to the Joplin Police Department, the incident occurred at Main Street near 34th Street involving a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder and a 2025 Jeep Compass. The collision occurred right in front of Joplin Fire Station #4. The Pathfinder was moving westbound on 34th Street and tried to cross Main Street, subsequently colliding with the southbound Jeep at the intersection. Unfortunately, a passenger in the Pathfinder, 80-year-old William Gilstrap of Joplin, lost his life in the crash, while the driver sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital. The primary contributing factor identified by JPD was a failure to yield. Fortunately, the occupants of the Jeep were not injured as a result of the collision.
