Johns Hopkins shuttle bus crashes into building in multi-car crash, 9 taken to hospital

At least nine people were taken to the hospital following a multi-car crash involving a Johns Hopkins shuttle bus Saturday, according to Baltimore City Police. Baltimore police said officers were called around 5:19 p.m. Saturday for a crash at the intersection of Charles and 25th streets in Charles Village."We were just chilling, just watching TV, and next thing you know, we heard this big boom. I actually thought that it was a building collapsing," said Corrin Thomas, who lives in a second story unit in the building impacted. "I see all of this debris everywhere and the car and the bus, and I'm like, oh my God, is everybody okay? Is anybody hurt?"Police said a preliminary investigation reveals the bus and another vehicle collided in the intersection, causing the bus to hit the building. 11 News obtained surveillance video showing a white SUV crashing into the side of the bus. The bus then hit two other vehicles before crashing into the building. People who live in the upper part of the building told 11 News their entire building shook when the crash happened. The building inspector for the city condemned the building, which is made up of at least two businesses and a number of apartments. "Well, it's inconvenient because, like now, you know, we will have to go to work tomorrow but they said they condemned the building," said Cory Backus, who is also now displaced. "They said everybody has to get out. So now we got to go find out where to stay for tonight." Officials have not released the conditions of the injured victims. Johns Hopkins released a statement, saying: "Earlier this evening, a Johns Hopkins shuttle bus was involved in an accident at 25th and North Charles Street. The driver and several passengers were transported to area hospitals, and we are working to identify and reach out to all of the shuttle passengers. We are fully cooperating with BPD's continuing investigation of the accident, and we will update our community as more information becomes available."
