Jeep driver dies in collision with Iowa school bus

A tragic incident occurred on U.S. Highway 218 in Benton County, as reported by KCRG, resulting in the fatality of a 37-year-old individual from Vinton. The crash, which involved a school bus, occurred around 1:45 p.m. when the bus collided with the victim's car, pushing it into oncoming traffic where it was struck by another vehicle. The bus driver and passengers were unharmed, as confirmed by the Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District. The victim's identity has not been disclosed at this time. As per the latest Iowa Department of Transportation data, there have been 218 road-related fatalities this year, 61 fewer than the corresponding period in 2024. On average, 353 individuals per year have lost their lives in crashes across Iowa over the past five years.
