Iowa law enforcement finds vehicle in fatal buggy hit-and-run.
The Clarke County Sheriff’s Office has announced the discovery of the vehicle involved in a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of Elmer Borntrager, a 16-year-old resident of Murray. According to the Iowa State Patrol report, Borntrager was riding in a horse-drawn buggy on R15 when a northbound vehicle collided with the buggy from behind, causing him to be thrown into a ditch. Borntrager was fatally injured at the scene. The hit-and-run vehicle, believed to be a silver or gray Chevy or GM sedan with significant damage, fled the scene. After receiving assistance from the public, the authorities located the vehicle and are currently processing it for evidence, while continuing their investigation with interviews. Law enforcement has not disclosed any information regarding the suspected driver of the vehicle.
