Investigation urged for Beyoncé show escalator incident at MARTA stop
After a malfunctioning escalator at the Vine City MARTA station resulted in injuries to at least nine individuals following a Beyoncé concert at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, an Atlanta city councilwoman is urging for an inquiry into the incident. The escalator malfunctioned when too many concertgoers tried to board it at once, leading to people falling down. MARTA officials have stated that an investigation is currently underway. District 11 Councilwoman Marci Collier Overstreet expressed serious concerns about safety as Atlanta gears up to host major international events. She is calling for MARTA leadership to come before the City Council to provide an explanation on the incident and outline the agency's maintenance procedures. Overstreet also intends to recommend that MARTA review staffing levels at stations during significant events to ensure crowd control and safety are maintained effectively. Stressing the importance of MARTA's role in Atlanta as a global destination, she emphasized the need for immediate improvements to begin inspections at every station. MARTA has not revealed a timeline for its investigation or indicated any immediate changes in response to the incident.
