Investigation underway into deadly crash involving pedestrian on Interstate 70
The Independence Police Department is currently looking into a tragic incident involving a vehicle-pedestrian collision. On Saturday, August 30th at approximately 8:20 p.m., IPD received a report of a hit and run in the 15400 block of East 42nd Terrace. Officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, but the driver refused to cooperate, leading to a chase that ended on Eastbound I-70 near Phelps Road. The suspect, a male adult, tragically lost his life in an attempt to flee on foot and was struck by another vehicle on the roadway. Thankfully, no officers or civilians were harmed during the events. The investigation is ongoing, and the IPD Accident Investigation Unit is handling the case. The suspect's identity is not being disclosed at this time.
