Investigation underway into deadly crash in Nye County by Nevada State Police
The Nevada State Police (NSP) are currently investigating a tragic accident that occurred in Nye County. The incident took place on October 7th around 12:22 a.m. on the southbound US 95, just south of mile marker 16. According to NSP, a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck was stalled in the number one travel lane on that day. A 2016 Mercedes Benz GLE SUV, traveling northbound on US 95, attempted to avoid a collision with the Chevrolet by swerving left, inadvertently crossing over the center line and colliding with a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck driving in the southbound lane. The impact caused the 2018 Chevrolet to overturn, resulting in the tragic death of its driver, 34-year-old Richard Dow Haviland of Pahrump. Unfortunately, this marks the 49th crash fatality investigated by NSP's Southern Command in 2025. The investigation into this collision is being carried out by NSP's Major Incident Reconstruction Team.
