Investigation next steps for suspects in fatal Grapevine Lake jet ski crash.

Federal immigration officials have joined the investigation into the deadly Grapevine Lake jet ski crash, as the suspects involved were confirmed to be in the country illegally. The investigation is ongoing regarding the tragic watercraft death of Ava Moore. The current charges against Daikerlyn Gonzalez and Maikel Perozo do not currently include capital murder. Conflicting information from authorities about the severity of the charges and immigration issues brings attention to the complex legal and immigration aspects of the case. Governorthat the State of Texas punished those responsible, with Gov. Greg Abbott indicating criminal responsibility in Moore's death by saying, "Welcome to Texas. Here's your death penalty." However, the charges against the suspects do not align with capital crimes according to investigators. Grapevine PD is leading the investigation with support from state and federal authorities. ICE has revealed that the suspects were in the country unlawfully since 2023, but they have since been processed and released on their own recognizance. ICE has initiated removal proceedings for the suspects but clarified that they are not taking over the criminal investigation, which remains under the jurisdiction of Grapevine PD. Immigration detainers have been issued for Perozo and Gonzalez, but ICE's involvement is limited to immigration matters and will not supersede the ongoing state court proceedings for the suspects. The family of Ava Moore has expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and has called for privacy and time to grieve, emphasizing forgiveness as they navigate through this difficult time.
