Investigation into deadly pedestrian accident in Union City
Early Wednesday morning in Union City, a man was tragically hit and killed by a vehicle while crossing a street before sunrise. The Union City Police Department quickly responded to the collision at the intersection of Decoto Road and Royal Ann Drive. At the scene, officers found a 55-year-old pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. The man was pronounced dead on-site. The area where the incident occurred has two northbound and southbound lanes on Decoto Road, along with a left turn lane. While there are crosswalks around the four-way intersection, it is uncertain if the pedestrian was utilizing one at the time of the accident. The driver involved in the collision stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities. There is no indication that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. This marks the city's fourth fatal collision of the year and is currently being investigated. Those with information are urged to reach out to UCPD Traffic Officer Michael Silva.
