Investigation into Clearwater Ferry crash ongoing amid increasing demand for justice

Last Sunday marked one week since the tragic Clearwater Ferry accident claimed the life of Jose Castro and left 10 others seriously injured. Castro's family bid him farewell over the weekend, while calls for justice continue to intensify. Currently, no charges have been brought against Jeffry Knight, the boat operator involved in the collision. At Castro's funeral, his niece, Angie Todd, emphasized the need for justice for Castro and his loved ones. Retired Tampa Police Department marine officer Randy Lopez, who now operates Blue Line Boating, shed light on the investigative process following such incidents, noting that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is leading the inquiry into the crash. According to FWC's Capt. Matthew Dallarosa, the investigation is complex due to the dynamic nature of water environments, and they are diligently working with the state attorney's office to ascertain any legal violations. The Clearwater Ferry temporarily ceased operations to mourn the victims, with service expected to resume Thursday.
