Investigation into 4th deadly collision involving Amish buggy in 10 years

A recent hit-and-run incident involving a horse-drawn buggy in rural Clarke County marks the fourth fatal collision of this kind in the state over the past decade, as per data from the Iowa Department of Transportation. This tragic event took place on Wednesday evening on Route 15, just south of Murray. The Iowa State Patrol report states that a vehicle struck the rear of the buggy on 130th Avenue, resulting in the passing of the 16-year-old occupant, Elmer Borntrager. Over the past ten years, there have been a total of 83 reported accidents between vehicles and horse-drawn buggies in Iowa, with four of them tragically being fatal. Majority of these incidents occur in Southern Iowa due to the presence of Amish communities in the area. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the crash, involving a silver or gray Chevrolet or a similar sedan with damage to the right side, windshield, or roof, to contact the Clarke County Sheriff's Office.
