Intoxicated man, 70, caused fatal rollover crash in Columbia County, police say

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A 70-year-old man faces multiple charges after causing a crash that left one person dead and one other seriously injured on Saturday night, according to Oregon State Police. Gary Fowler was arrested and charged with first-degree manslaughter, DUII, third-degree assault and reckless endangering. The crash took place on Hwy 30 near milepost 22 in Columbia County just before 9:15 p.m. Investigators say that Fowler was "traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the rear of a westbound Lexus R330, operated by Angela Michelle Kornhauser (43) of St. Helens. The collision caused the Lexus to leave the roadway and roll before coming to rest on the adjacent railroad tracks." Kornhauser was seriously injured in the crash and was taken to a local hospital. The passenger, 37-year-old Christopher Casillas, was ejected from the car and declared dead at the scene. Both individuals were not wearing seatbelts, police say. "Speed and operator impairment are considered the primary contributors to the crash," OSP said.
