Intentional act caused fatal motorcycle crash in Chula Vista - CHP

The California Highway Patrol provided further information on a fatal accident in Chula Vista that caused a 16-hour traffic jam on I-805 this week. The incident occurred at 8:03 p.m. on Monday in the southbound lanes of I-805 near Telegraph Canyon Road. According to the CHP, a red Tesla was speeding in the HOV lane when it deliberately rear-ended a BMW motorcycle, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist, a 53-year-old Chula Vista resident. The Tesla then collided with a pickup truck carrying six individuals, who were all hospitalized. The Tesla overturned after the crash, and its 22-year-old driver from San Diego fled the scene but was later apprehended by CHP officers. He is now facing multiple serious charges, including murder. Following the incident, three southbound lanes on I-805 remained closed until Tuesday morning for investigation purposes.
