Injuries sustained by several students in Leander ISD bus rollover accident.
Ten individuals, including nine children, were brought to the hospital after a Leander Independent School District bus overturned in Travis County's Sandy Creek area. Austin-Travis County EMS reported that two children sustained serious injuries not believed to be life-threatening, while the others had minor injuries. The bus, carrying 42 children and an adult from Bagdad Elementary School, was involved in the incident, with the bus driver among the injured taken to hospital by ATCEMS. This occurrence took place on the first day of school for Leander ISD, at around 3:16 p.m. on Nameless Road. Leander ISD promptly reached out to parents via email after the crash, informing them of the situation. A reunification site was established at Round Mountain Baptist Church, and while initial reports mentioned 12 passengers taken to hospital, this was later clarified to be ten individuals at 6 p.m. Notably, Leander ISD enforces the use of 3-point seatbelts on school buses in compliance with state law, with drivers receiving yearly emergency training to handle unexpected situations. If needed, drivers are to evaluate student well-being and promptly notify dispatch for assistance, emphasizing student safety as a top priority in such circumstances.
