Initial findings on deadly Great Sacandaga Lake accident revealed

The Fulton County Sheriff's Office in Broadalbin, N.Y., has shared an initial overview of the tragic jet ski accident on Great Sacandaga Lake, which happened in June. Grace Clark, a 21-year-old Schalmont High School alumna, lost her life in the collision, with another person sustaining injuries. The incident occurred near Broadalbin Boat Launch around 6:15 p.m. The inquiry revealed that Clark's jet ski crashed into a pontoon boat, which was carrying several individuals. Through statements from witnesses, GPS data, and video footage analysis, authorities began piecing together the events leading up to the accident. Reconstruction efforts indicated that the collision happened at speeds exceeding 25 miles per hour after the jet ski made a sudden maneuver. The pontoon boat operator was found to have followed all safety regulations, suggesting Clark's lack of experience played a significant role in the accident. Sadly, Clark was pronounced dead at the scene, and the injured passenger was taken to Albany Medical Center. The Sheriff's Office stressed the importance of the new requirement mandating all boat and jet ski operators to possess a Safe Boating Certificate, irrespective of age. They also advised against excessive alcohol consumption, speeding, neglecting right of way rules, and navigating unfamiliar waters after dark.
