Information on Highway 50 helicopter crash
In Sacramento on Monday, a medical helicopter crash critically injured three crew members and caused the closure of Highway 50 near Stockton Boulevard. The helicopter involved was a Reach Air Medical Services H130, a single-engine aircraft designed for passenger transport and medical flights. Fortunately, the crash did not result in a fire thanks to the model's design that contains fuel. The National Transportation Safety Board previously recommended equipping the H130 with crash-resistant fuel systems after two fatal crashes in 2015. The helicopter, registered as N414RX and manufactured in 2021, was headed to UC Davis Medical Center from Red Bluff Municipal Airport when the incident occurred. While no patients were on board, the pilot, nurse, and paramedic on the helicopter were seriously injured. Reach Air Medical Services released a statement expressing concern and promising updates on the crew's condition.
