Infant survives rollover crash on 60 Freeway that kills driver
An infant secured in a car seat survived a violent rollover crash on the 60 Freeway in Riverside County that killed the woman driving the SUV, authorities said. Officers responded to the crash on the westbound side of the freeway just west of Day Street around 2:10 p.m. Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol. Investigators determined that a 2014 Acura MDX was traveling at a high rate of speed while passing other motorists in the center median shoulder when the driver lost control of the mid-sized SUV. The Acura overturned several times, ejecting the driver, who landed in the eastbound lanes and was struck by a 2024 Tesla Model 3. The unidentified woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP. An infant who was seated in a car seat in the back seat of the Acura suffered only minor injuries, officials said. The driver of the Tesla was not injured. Authorities did not share information about any relationship between the woman who was driving the SUV and the infant, and it was not immediately clear to whom the child was released following the crash. Investigators have not determined whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call the CHP’s Accident Investigation Unit at 951-324-7210.
