Indictment in Tarrant County for fatal hit-and-run involving jet ski on Grapevine Lake

A person has been formally charged for their alleged involvement in a fatal hit-and-run involving a jet ski on Grapevine Lake over the Memorial Day weekend. The accused jet ski driver is facing a potential prison sentence of up to 20 years for the death of 18-year-old Ava Moore. Daikerlyn Alejandro Gonzalez, 21, was indicted for manslaughter by a Tarrant County grand jury. Maikel Alexander Coello Perozo, 21, is awaiting indictment on a charge of hindering apprehension or prosecution. Gonzalez, who is believed to have been operating the jet ski when it collided with Moore, could face two to 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $20,000 if found guilty. Perozo, suspected of aiding Gonzalez in escaping the scene, faces a possible one-year jail term and a maximum fine of $4,000 if convicted. The incident occurred when Moore was kayaking near Oak Grove Park on May 25 and sustained fatal head injuries. Both Gonzalez and Perozo, who are from Venezuela and were found to be illegally residing in the United States, were detained on immigration charges. Moore, a recent graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School and soon-to-be military trainee, tragically lost her life just days after receiving her diploma.
