Indian man sought for fatal 2005 Long Island car crash extradited to U.S.
An individual of Indian nationality, accused of causing a fatal crash on Long Island two decades ago, has returned to the U.S. and is now in custody. Nassau County prosecutors, who persisted in seeking justice for the victim's family, expressed their satisfaction on the recent developments. The suspect, Ganesh Shenoy, was extradited from India after dodging prosecution and escaping law enforcement for 20 years. Shenoy allegedly caused a crash that took the life of Hicksville resident Philip Mastropolo in 2005. Witnesses reported that Shenoy was speeding and ran a red light when he collided with Mastropolo's car. Despite providing his passport to authorities after the incident, Shenoy left the hospital and the country. Now, after exhausting his legal options in Indian courts, he is detained without bail in Nassau County. The Mastropolo family, who endured 20 years of uncertainty, expressed gratitude for the renewed attention to the case and hope for justice after a long wait. Assistant DA Michael Bushwack noted the family's joy during the recent court proceedings, while District Attorney Anne Donnelly emphasized the importance of never giving up on seeking justice, no matter how long it may take.
