Increased accident reporting stages in Shawnee County
Due to snow accumulations of two to four inches in northeast Kansas, the Topeka Police Department (TPD) and Shawnee County Sheriff's Office are increasing accident reporting efforts. Drivers are advised to avoid specific areas due to hazardous road conditions. The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office strongly advises against unnecessary travel during inclement weather. Both the TPD and sheriff's office have updated their accident reporting phases. They will now only respond to accidents involving specific criteria. The National Weather Service (NOAA) has issued a winter weather advisory until 6 p.m., warning of slippery road conditions. Drivers are urged to drive cautiously. In the case of accidents, drivers are encouraged to exchange information and report incidents to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
