'I'm so sorry': Driver sentenced in Tri-State road rage crash that left family of 3 dead

HAMILTON, Ohio (WKRC) - A Hamilton man was sentenced Monday to nine years in prison for a road rage crash that killed three members of the same family. Brandon Begley, 41, pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated vehicular homicide in connection with the December crash on River Road. Prosecutors said Begley was driving about 75 mph when a road rage incident escalated. Investigators said he attempted to illegally pass three vehicles, lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a Honda Civic head-on. The crash killed Milton Alvarez Lagos, 35; Bety Salazar Lopez, 27; and 10-year-old Milton Salazar Alvarez. Family members addressed the court before sentencing. “My heart continues to be broken,” Alvarez Lagos’ sister said through an interpreter. “It was not just one person who died, but a whole family.” Despite her loss, she told the court she forgave Begley. Begley, who was also seriously injured in the crash, apologized to the victims' family during the hearing. "If I could, I would give my life so that they could still have theirs. In my mind, I deserve death for what happened. I take complete responsibility and I ask forgiveness on the mercy of the court." He turned to the family and said "I'm so sorry." In addition to the prison sentence, the judge imposed a lifetime suspension of Begley’s driver’s license.
