Illinois truck driver with ICE detainer after deadly Indiana accident: authorities
A man from Indiana lost his life in a multi-vehicle accident on U.S. 20 in Portage, with another man being arrested by the police for driving without a commercial driver's license (CDL). The collision occurred when a Freightliner semi-tractor with a trailer, driven by Broko Stankovic of Lyons, Ill., failed to slow down and struck a Subaru Crosstrek after swerving. This resulted in a chain reaction causing the semi to jackknife and hit a van. Sadly, the driver of the Subaru, a 54-year-old man, passed away at the scene. Stankovic, who did not have a valid CDL and possessed a suspended one belonging to a family member, was taken into custody and charged with criminal recklessness resulting in death and reckless homicide. Additionally, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer was placed on Stankovic due to his immigration status. We will provide further updates on this tragic incident as more information becomes available.
