Illinois school delays opening due to blocked entrances from crash, officials report.
A significant automobile collision near South Middle School in Ingleside caused a delay in the school day on Wednesday morning, reported by district authorities. To allow emergency vehicles clear access to the scene, Gavin School District 37 implemented a 3-hour postponed start. This means bus services and parent drop-offs will be running three hours later than normal, with dismissal times unchanged. Students were advised to have their breakfast prior to arrival, as breakfast would not be available and lunch might be served later than usual. Morning preschool and before-school activities were canceled for the day, and out-of-district transportation services and midday shuttles were also operating on the delayed schedule unless otherwise communicated by the provider. Staff members were instructed to adhere to the 3-hour delay unless advised differently by supervisors. Families were urged to steer clear of the South campus area until the delayed arrival window and to follow police instructions. Parents were requested to inform the school office promptly if their child would be absent or significantly delayed due to the disruption. School officials promised to update families regarding any alternative entrance or traffic arrangements.
