Illinois man faces charges for fatal crash, 1 dead and 1 critical - FHP reported

A man from Port Barrington, Illinois is facing charges of vehicular homicide and reckless driving resulting in serious bodily injury following a deadly crash in which he was involved on November 1. The charges were filed after he was arrested for loitering and prowling in a separate incident, said the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash occurred when the man, Scott March, allegedly attempted to pass another driver in a no-passing zone, resulting in a collision around 6 p.m. on FL-A1A/Ocean Shore Boulevard and Sandpiper Ridge Drive in Volusia County. The crash led to the ejection of the 72-year-old Ohio driver and his 73-year-old female passenger, with the driver tragically losing his life at the scene and the passenger sustaining critical injuries. It was reported that neither occupant in the Jeep was wearing a seat belt. The man from Illinois suffered minor injuries and was subsequently taken into custody on November 3 by Daytona Beach Police for loitering and prowling. Later, further charges of vehicular homicide and reckless driving were brought against him by the Florida Highway Patrol. The investigation is ongoing, and his toxicology report is currently pending. Additionally, the vehicle involved in the crash, a 2026 Chevrolet Corvette, was a recent purchase. The Ohio driver's identity has not been disclosed, and no further details regarding the toxicology report have been provided by authorities.
