IDF Soldier, 19, Dies in Military Incident in Northern Gaza

It has been confirmed that Sergeant Yair Eliyahu, 19, from Ezer, serving as a combat engineer in the Northern Brigade, tragically passed away this morning in an operational accident. Reports indicate that Eliyahu lost his life when two engineering vehicles, a backhoe and a D-9, collided during their mission. In an update, it was shared that Eliyahu, may his memory be a blessing, was posthumously promoted from Corporal to Sergeant. He is the 882nd soldier to fall in the recent conflict. As per data provided by Galatz military correspondent Doron Kadosh, since the ground operation began in October 2023, 16% of the 440 IDF soldiers who have lost their lives, comprising 72 individuals, died in operational accidents. Following the Operations "Strength and Sword" and "Gideon’s Chariots," it was noted that 6% of the 32 soldiers who lost their lives in the Strip died in operational accidents. Among the 72 operational accident fatalities, the causes are detailed as follows: 31 from friendly fire events, 23 from weapons and ammunition incidents, 7 from armored vehicles or airstrikes, and 6 from shooting misfires.
