Identity of staff member killed in Jacob's Pillow incident revealed; no legal action planned

The individual involved in the tragic incident at Jacob's Pillow has been identified by the Berkshire District Attorney's Office as Kat (Kathryn) Sirico. The accident occurred when Sirico, aged 40 from Rochester, NY, and a summer intern were moving platforms on the property in Becket. While moving the platforms on a dolly downhill, they lost control of the equipment, causing Sirico to trip and fall while trying to stop it. Unfortunately, the dolly ran over Sirico and the platforms fell on them. Despite efforts from bystanders and a response from Becket Police Department and Emergency Medical Services, Sirico did not survive the accident. Following an investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the Berkshire State Police Detective Unit, it was concluded by the Berkshire District Attorney's Office that no criminal charges would be filed in relation to the incident. Jacob's Pillow, a renowned performance space and dance school in Becket, hosts a nine-week dance festival each summer, featuring over 50 dance companies. Regrettably, performances scheduled for that day had to be canceled. Established as a National Historic Landmark spanning 200 acres, Jacob's Pillow was purchased in 1931 by Ted Shawn, a pioneer in modern dance aiming to elevate the status of dance in the U.S. This led to the foundation of the dance festival through "Tea Lecture Demonstrations" and the formation of a groundbreaking dance company in 1933.
