Identity of Long Island Man Killed in MRI Mishap with Metal Chain
Keith McAllister, 61, tragically passed away after being pulled into an active MRI machine at a medical center in Long Island. The incident took place at Nassau Open MRI during a scan for his wife. Even though he was not a patient, McAllister entered the MRI room while wearing a 20-pound metal chain for weightlifting. The powerful magnetic field of the machine drew him in, causing fatal injuries. He sadly succumbed to his injuries the next day. Adrienne Jones-McAllister, his wife, shared the harrowing experience with News 12 Long Island, recounting the moment when the magnet forcefully pulled her husband in as he approached to assist her off the MRI table. It is unclear why McAllister was allowed in the MRI room while the machine was operational, which goes against standard MRI safety guidelines. MRI machines contain strong magnets that can attract metal objects with great force and can be extremely dangerous if safety procedures are not strictly adhered to. This tragic incident is reminiscent of a similarly unfortunate event in New York in 2001, where a young boy lost his life when an oxygen tank was drawn into an MRI machine. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding McAllister's death, including any potential lapses in safety protocols at the facility.
