Identified suspect in I-10 bus crash interim report
An interim report regarding the bus accident on Interstate 10 near the West Tangerine Road exit in Marana has identified the alleged suspect behind the crash as Nicolas Luis Rodriguez. The report states that Rodriguez was driving eastbound on I-10 in a 2012 Volvo XC60 and moved from the middle lane to the right lane at milepost 240, causing a collision with the bus. The impact resulted in the bus veering onto the shoulder, then crossing the lanes and ending up in the median. Both drivers were checked for impairment at the scene, with the bus driver deemed to be sober. Rodriguez, however, displayed signs of impairment during the sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. He mentioned to a trooper that he was heading to a job interview in Oro Valley and cited the bus merging into his lane as the cause of the collision. Rodriguez revealed using marijuana two days before the incident, and subsequent testing confirmed the presence of cannabis in his system. Blood sample results, obtained through a search warrant, are pending. As per the complaint, Rodriguez is facing three aggravated assault charges in connection to the crash.
