Identification of two individuals killed in a fatal crash in Madison County by Iowa State Patrol

The Iowa State Patrol has identified the two Iowa men who tragically lost their lives in a collision in Madison County last Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Earlham Road, located approximately five miles north of 190th Street. According to the crash report by the ISP, the collision involved a 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis, driven by a 63-year-old woman from Winterset, and a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by a 55-year-old man named Kurtis James Hanner from Stuart. The report indicates that the Grand Prix, traveling at a high speed, lost control, resulting in a collision with the Mercury. Both Hanner and a passenger, 56-year-old Rodney Eugene Jones from Casey, were ejected from the Grand Prix and tragically succumbed to their injuries at the crash site. The driver of the Mercury sustained serious injuries and was taken to a Des Moines hospital for treatment. The Madison County Sheriff's Office supported in the investigation of the incident. As per the latest figures from the Iowa Department of Transportation, 126 fatalities have been reported on Iowa roads this year, marking a decline of 11 deaths from the same time last year. Over the past five years, an average of 353 individuals have lost their lives annually in crashes statewide.
