Identification of person killed by car fleeing burglary on Magnificent Mile crash

Authorities have identified the victim of a tragic incident in which an innocent bystander was fatally struck by a car during a burglary in Chicago. The victim has been named as Mark Arceta, a 40-year-old resident of Skokie, Illinois. The burglary occurred in the early hours of Thursday on Chicago's Magnificent Mile, where a group crashed a pickup truck into a Louis Vuitton store before fleeing with stolen merchandise in multiple vehicles. During the getaway, a Kia Stinger collided with a Honda CR-V at an intersection, resulting in the death of Arceta, the Honda driver. Five suspects in the Kia were apprehended, and stolen items were recovered from the vehicle. Another vehicle involved in the incident, an Infiniti Q50, crashed on DuSable Lake Shore Drive, leading to a pursuit where four suspects escaped on foot. Investigations into the incident are ongoing by the Belmont Area detectives and the police Major Accident Investigation Unit.
