A senior resident of Cohasset, identified as John F. Canney, tragically lost his life after his pickup truck was hit by an inbound MBTA Commuter Rail train at Beechwood Street railroad crossing. Authorities confirmed the incident occurred at 11:20 a.m. on Saturday. Cohasset police Chief William Quigley noted that there was no indication of equipment failure. Eyewitnesses stated that the truck disregarded the activated warnings and safety gates before the collision with the train traveling within the legal speed limit of 35 mph. Although none of the train passengers were harmed, they were stranded for several hours as alternate transportation was arranged. The train operator, Keolis, mentioned that all crossing signals were operating correctly when the tragic accident happened. Chief Quigley emphasized the importance of caution at rail crossings, highlighting the fundamental reality that trains will always have the advantage in such encounters.
