Identification of 2 individuals who died in a canal accident on I-5 in San Joaquin County
Two individuals were discovered deceased days after a vehicle plunged into a canal located off Interstate 5 near Tracy, as reported by the California Highway Patrol. One passenger survived the incident. The victims, identified as 52-year-old William J. Doyle and 48-year-old Roland M. Penamante, were found on Sunday in Stanislaus County, according to CHP. On Sept. 19 at around 8 a.m., authorities received a report of a woman attempting to signal for help on I-5 near Highway 132. She informed officers that she had been a passenger in the vehicle that crashed into the water, stating that two others were also in the car. Tire marks and debris at the canal's edge supported her account, and the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office dive team later retrieved the unoccupied Chevrolet Silverado from the canal. The circumstances leading to the crash have not been disclosed by officials. For more news on California stories, download our app, subscribe to our morning newsletter, and visit our YouTube channel.
