
ICE arrests suspect in deadly Louisiana accident
A fatal accident in Avoyelles Parish resulting in one man's death has led to the arrest of a suspect who is now in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as per separate statements from Louisiana State Police and the Department of Homeland Security. The collision occurred on August 3 on Louisiana Highway 1 near the Echo community. A northbound 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Romero H. Roberto of Alexandria, struck a 2013 Kubota lawn mower operated by Rickey G. Maddox, who later passed away due to his injuries. Roberto, who was not wearing a seat belt, was unharmed. Impairment is suspected, and Roberto faces charges including vehicular homicide and first-offense DWI. Roberto, identified by DHS as Romero-Hernandez, a Mexican national, is under an immigration detainer to prevent his release after legal proceedings. This case is still being investigated by Louisiana State Police.
