I-77 southbound at SR 162 Copley closed due to traffic accident

All lanes are currently shut down on Interstate-77 North at Vernon Odom Boulevard due to a traffic collision that resulted in damage to a low bridge, as confirmed by the Akron Police Department. The closures impact multiple exits on both directions of I-77 between the central interchange and Copley Road, according to Akron PD. By 9:15 p.m., I-77 South had reopened. Akron Police reported that a semi-truck collided with a low bridge, causing damage underneath the I-77 overpass near Vernon Odom Boulevard. Emergency responders are present at the location, and ODOT engineers are en route to assess the bridge's overhead structure. Akron PD recommended motorists to avoid the affected area and suggested alternative routes as follows: For southbound traffic on I-77, use SR 21 south to I-76/US 224 west; for northbound traffic on I-77, take I-277/US 224 east to SR 21 north.
