I-75 Southbound Traffic Blocked by Major Crash in Gibsonton

A tragic incident occurred in Gibsonton, Florida, on Sunday morning when a man lost his life after being hit by a vehicle and thrown off a bridge during a crash on I-75. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a 35-year-old man from Spring Hill was driving a Honda Civic on southbound I-75 around 5:37 a.m. when he was involved in a single-vehicle crash. Subsequently, a Mazda driven by a 20-year-old woman from Kentucky collided with a Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 22-year-old woman from Brandon. Both the Honda and the Mazda drivers were outside their vehicles after the initial collisions. A 41-year-old woman from Brandon was behind the wheel of a Chevy Traverse that then struck the Honda, causing the driver to be thrown off the bridge into the Alafia River, resulting in fatal injuries. The Chevy continued on to hit the Mazda. The Chevy driver sustained minor injuries, while the Mazda and Nissan drivers were unharmed. The incident led to the closure of all southbound lanes on I-75 for over five hours, with vehicles using the highway shoulder to bypass the scene.
