I-75 south reopens following incident with Spring Hill man at Alafia River bridge, says FHP

I-75 south in the Gibsonton area has been reopened after a tragic multi-car crash occurred on the bridge over the Alafia River. Sadly, a 35-year-old Spring Hill man lost his life when he was struck and killed by a Chevy Traverse driven by a 41-year-old Brandon woman. The incident occurred early Sunday morning when the victim and the driver were outside their vehicles after the initial crash. The Chevy collided with the victim's car, causing them to fall off the bridge into the river. The Chevy then hit a Mazda 3 sedan, though that driver was not in the vehicle at the time. Fortunately, there were no other reported injuries, and the driver of the Chevy sustained only minor injuries. The road was closed for investigation, with traffic being rerouted onto US-301 S at mile marker 254. An ongoing investigation is being conducted.
