I-70 in Colorado's high country closed due to multi-car crash and vehicle fire.

A car accident and fire caused the closure of a section of I-70 in the mountains of Colorado on Thursday afternoon. The Colorado Department of Transportation reported that the fire shut down the westbound lanes of I-70 near mile marker 218 around 1:27 p.m., just half a mile west of Herman Gulch Road. Eastbound lanes of I-70 were also closed west of the tunnels for approximately 1.5 hours before reopening shortly before 2 p.m. Preliminary reports from the Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office suggest that multiple vehicles were involved in the crash that led to the fire. Drivers are advised to find an alternate route as the closure is expected to last long and delays are building up.
