
I-68 Reopens after Tractor Trailer Accident
UPDATE: 5:20 a.m. — The Preston County 911 Center has confirmed that all lanes are now open following a vehicle collision that had caused a closure earlier. Officials had posted on Facebook around 4:45 a.m. regarding the blocked traffic section due to the accident, advising commuters to allow for extra travel time and seek alternative routes. An additional update has been made that the roadways have since reopened. The cause of the accident remains unknown. ORIGINALLY REPORTED: BRUCETON MILLS, W.Va. — Due to a vehicle accident at mile marker 15, I-68 eastbound is currently closed, while one westbound lane remains open until further notice. The lane closures have been in effect since just after midnight Monday, as indicated by WV 511. The West Virginia Department of Highways urges caution for travelers passing the area with one westbound lane available around mile marker 19. Commercial traffic is advised to detour via exit 10 at Cheat Lake, I-43 to Uniontown, and highway 40. Passenger vehicles can take exit 15 at Coopers Rock and Route 73 as an eastbound detour. The Bruceton Brandonville Volunteer Fire Department shared an image of a tractor trailer blocking the eastbound side and spilling into the westbound lane, causing delays expected to last several more hours. Fire Department personnel have been released as of 4:00 a.m., with the West Virginia Department of Highways and tow personnel remaining on-site.
