I-35W southbound reopens in Mounds View after fatal wreck

Troopers say a "merging conflict" caused a seven-vehicle crash Monday morning that left a Brooklyn Park man dead.MnDOT reported that I-35W southbound lanes were closed around 10:30 a.m. due a "serious crash" near County Road I, along the border of Mounds View and Arden Hills. The closure was just south of Highway 10. The exit ramp from Highway 10 to I-35W south was also closed.The highway was reopened around 1:45 p.m.A Minnesota State Patrol incident report says a "merging conflict" resulted in the multi-vehicle crash around 10 a.m.Sixty-seven-year-old Kirby Schwarzkopf, who was driving a Chevy Impala, was killed amid the wreck that also involved three semi trucks, two SUVs and a minivan.Two people in a Ford Edge, one of the truck drivers, and two people in the minivan were also hurt, but troopers said they were expected to survive their injuries.
