I-294 reopens following hours-long closure due to fatal wrong-way crash
GLENVIEW, Ill. (WGN) — A tragic incident occurred on the Tri-State Tollway early Wednesday morning, leading to the closure of part of the highway. The fatal wrong-way crash occurred in the early hours near Golf Road in Glenview. Illinois State Police reported that one of the drivers involved was driving in the wrong direction, causing a collision with another vehicle traveling correctly on the northbound lanes of I-294. Sadly, the driver going the wrong way lost their life in the crash, while the other driver sustained injuries and was hospitalized. The affected stretch of the tollway from East Dempster Street to Willow Road was temporarily closed, but all lanes were reopened by 7 a.m. The identity of the deceased driver has not been disclosed.
