Houston I-10 crash: Passenger killed in 3-vehicle wreck near Beltway 8
One person is dead after a three-vehicle crash on I-10 in east Harris County on Monday.The crash occurred before 3 p.m. Monday in the westbound lanes of the I-10 East Freeway near Beltway 8. According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, a box truck was traveling down I-10 when it began to have engine issues. The sheriff says the driver slowed down to around 15 mph, and two vehicles swerved to avoid the box truck.The sheriff says a pickup truck tried to swerve to avoid the box truck but ended up hitting it.The front-seat passenger in the pickup truck died at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital as a precaution.A red sedan was also involved in the crash, but authorities say no other injuries were reported.The sheriff says none of the drivers showed signs of intoxication.The identity of the person who died in the crash has not been released.The highway was shut down for more than three hours while authorities investigated the crash. It reopened before 6 p.m.
