
‘Hometown hero’: Fresno mayor honors Marine killed in crash
FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A Marine from Fresno has been identified as one of the victims in a fatal car crash in New Mexico on Tuesday night. Fresno City Mayor Jerry Dyer released a statement honoring the Marine. On April 15, two Marines were killed and one was hospitalized after a car crash near Santa Teresa in New Mexico, according to officials. One of the Marines who was killed was identified as Lance Cpl. Marcelino M. Gamino, 28, of Fresno. Gamino was a combat engineer with the First Combat Engineer Battalion, First Marine Division. He enlisted in May 2022 and was promoted to lance corporal in August 2024. Following the announcement of his death, Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer released a statement honoring the Marine, calling him a "hometown hero." Another Marine killed in the crash was identified as Lance Cpl. Albert A. Aguilera, 22, of Riverside. The other Marine was sent to the hospital and is currently in critical condition, per officials. The crash is under investigation.
