Homeowner shoots intruder fleeing car crash in Eagle Rock residence
An incident on the 134 Freeway in Eagle Rock led to a series of dramatic events when individuals involved in a crash allegedly broke into a nearby residence. The crash occurred around 3 p.m. on the eastbound lanes near the N. Figueroa Street ramps, as reported by the California Highway Patrol. Following the crash, three individuals fled the scene and entered a neighborhood on Eagle Vista Drive. It was stated that these suspects unlawfully entered a home, prompting the homeowner to shoot at them. This action led LAPD officers to believe they were being targeted, resulting in return fire that wounded the homeowner. One suspect, dressed only in underwear, was apprehended around 4:20 p.m., with a second suspect later also taken into custody. Subsequently, two women emerged from a residence in the area and were detained, with one woman allegedly armed and claiming to have acted in defense of her property from the suspects. The police detained the women for investigation, concerned there might be a gunshot victim inside the home. The California Highway Patrol clarified that it was only the homeowner who fired shots, retracting earlier statements suggesting police involvement. The 134 Freeway's eastbound lanes were shut down for an extended period as the investigation unfolded. Fortunately, no officers sustained injuries during the incident.
